Tony Award Wwinners 2011

The Tony Awards are just the shorter name for the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, which gives the essential information about what these awards are all about. 2011 celebrated the 65th Annual Tony Awards show and has rewarded some of the most outstanding performances in theatre, which have entered history with this occasion.

Starting with the most important award of the evening, the Tony Award for Best Play was rewarded to 'War Horse', a war documentary written by author Nick Stafford. Nominated for five awards total, War Horse outdid Good People, Jerusalem and The Motherf**ker with the Hat for the title.

Best Musical was awarded to The Book of Mormon, winning over Catch me if you can, The Scottsboro Boys and Sister Act. Staying on a musical note, the Best Original Score was a toss-up between 3 of the 4 mentioned before, while adding the Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. However, The Book of Mormon took the prize again, as well as the title for Best Book of a Musical.

Mark Rylance won the award for best performance by an actor in a leading role for Jerusalem, while Frances McDormand took the award for best actress in Good People. Norbert Leo Butz and Sutton Foster won the best performance in a musical awards. Among featured actors were winners John Benjamin Hickey, Ellen Barkin and John Larroquette and Nikki M. James for a musical.

War Horse won the title of Best Direction in a Play for Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, while the popular Book of Mormon brought Casey Nicholaw and Trey Parker an award for best direction in a musical. War Horse and The Book of Mormon were the big winners at the 2011 Tony Awards, with many titles won by the actors and the crew for astounding results.
